Mount Cotton Test Track Day - Results of eye witness competition
As part of the Mount Cotton Test Track day delegates were invited to take part in some important practical research into the accuracy of eye witness observations, in association with our good friends at ASPACI. Delegates witnessed a total of 6 runs by a 'bandit vehicle' (with each run in a subtly different direction of travel) and were asked a series of questions on each run, which included delegates having to estimate vehicle speed and recall more general parameters such as the colour of the vehicle and the driver's clothing or number of passengers in the vehicle.
The response was phenomenal, with 74 returns received. These have now been processed and a detailed presentation, and analysis of, the results will be posted shortly. For the purposes of a parallel competition, a points scoring system was devised to 'mark' the returns, based on accuracy of recollection etc., with a total of 23 points being possible.
The result was a tie for first place on 14 pts. Stand up and take a bow: John Yeaman of Fugro PMS and Anthony Megens of VicRoad. Well done to both of you.
Honourable mentions (on 13 pts) go to Karl Cloos of Roads ACT and Marcel Simons of DTEI South Australia.
For the record the lowest score was 1 pt !!
