An Introduction to Geotechnical Investigation & Design
ARRB Group in association with Austroads is pleased to present a one-day introductory workshop on the recently published Part 7 of the Guide to Road Design.
The information presented will be based on the background material supporting the Austroads Guide to Road Design Part 7: Geotechnical Investigation and Design. It will cover material relating to best practice techniques, methods of field investigation, laboratory tests, geotechnical reports, potential risks and geotechnical information normally required for each design element.
This course is aimed at road design engineers and technical officers to familiarise themselves with various aspects of geotechnical investigations and design and how this knowledge relates to road design outcomes. The course is a valuable introduction to geotechnical engineering for junior engineers and technical support personnel currently employed or about to be employed in the geotechnical field. The course also provides a forum for experienced geotechnical personnel to participate in discussions and course activities and interact with their road design counterparts. Attendance is recommended for persons wishing to familiarise themselves with the introduction and roll out of the Austroads Guide to Road Design generally.

Basic Geometric Road Design
ARRB Group is pleased to offer a three-day intensive training workshop on Basic Geometric Road Design. The purpose of the workshop is to provide new graduates, draftpersons and technicians with a practical understanding of basic geometric road design.
Good road design will achieve operational efficiency, be safe and cost-effective, be aesthetically pleasing, and minimise the environmental impact. The role of the road designer is to produce the most appropriate design that achieves the specified functionality using the design inputs from all relevant disciplines. The design must take into account all inputs from stakeholders and road users. This workshop will cover these principles so that delegates will obtain a clear understanding of the key geometric design requirements for road design. The course will be based on the recent Austroads Guide to Road Design, in particular, Part 3: Geometric Design.
Please be advised that the registration period for this workshop is not yet open. If you are interested in being sent further information once it is available, please email us at training@arrb.com.au

Freight & Heavy Vehicles: Access & Safety
ARRB Group is pleased to present a two-day workshop on the technical aspects of heavy vehicle operation. Delegates will be provided with a thorough understanding of heavy vehicle dynamics topics related to safety and infrastructure performance, and related themes including the Performance Based Standards (PBS) accreditation scheme, and the innovative route assessment and network classification approach.

Fundamentals of Transport & Accessibility Modelling
ARRB is pleased to offer this two day workshop, focussing on providing delegates with an understanding of the fundamentals of transport and accessibility modelling.
Estimates of future demand are essential to the formulation of transport plans and policies. Transport demand modelling is therefore one of the core skills of a transport planner.
Accessibility can be defined as the variety of opportunities provided from a location through the efficient arrangement of land use and the provision of efficient transport. The shift from transport-based indicators to accessibility indicators is a growing trend in practical integrated land use and transport planning.
Workshop participants will be provided with fundamental explanation and hands-on experience on topics including, generation and attraction models, origin-destination (OD) models, mode choice models, and network assignment techniques. Delegates will be provided and instructed on the use of spreadsheets and special programs for transport modelling, such as Furness algorithm for OD Models and maximum likelihood estimation for the calibration of Mode Choice Models. Participants will also be provided the ARRB Traffic Assignment Program which is an incremental assignment and user-equilibrium assignment program.
Participants will also learn the fundamentals of accessibility measurement, including the ARRB Accessibility Metric, and the use of transport models for assessing accessibility at a city and neighbourhood level.

Intersection and Roundabout Design
ARRB Group, on behalf of Austroads is pleased to offer two complementary workshops based on the Austroads Guide to Road Design series.
The Intersections at Grade workshop will cover the current AGRD04A-10 Guide to Road Design Part 4A: Unsignalised and Signalised Intersections, while the Roundabouts workshop will be based on AGRD04B-11 Guide to Road Design Part 4B: Roundabouts.
These workshops cover both traffic management issues as well as geometric design considerations at intersections and roundabouts. Attend either or both to meet your professional development needs and to acquire knowledge about the Austroads guides covering these topics.
Please be advised that the registration period for the Canberra, Darwin, and Auckland NZ workshops are not yet open. If you are interested in being sent further information once it is available, please email us at training@arrb.com.au
Level 1 Bridge Inspection
A two-day workshop for those involved with the routine maintenance inspection of bridge structures and culverts.
The workshop aims to assist participants develop skills to conduct the Level 1 inspection and complete the Level 1inspection report form, on which to base the required maintenance intervention.
Level 1 inspections are a routine maintenance inspection, to check on the general serviceability of the structure and its surroundings; the road approaches and stream. This excludes the rating of individual members or overall bridge condition which is applicable to Level 2 inspections. The training will cover timber, steel and concrete structures.
For further information about the workshop, or to register, please click on the relevant link below to downoad the workshop brochure and registration form.
Level 2 Bridge Inspection
A two-day workshop for those involved with the inspection of bridges and culverts. A Level 2 inspection involves the identification of every bridge component and the rating of the condition of that component. This can be used to generate an overall score or rating for the bridge for the prioritisation of repairs, major maintenance, rehabilitation and or replacement.
The workshop aims to assist participants develop skills to conduct the Level 2 inspection and will also including information on:
• safety awareness around structures
• special access equipment
• accepted and recommended procedures.
The training will cover timber, steel and concrete structures.
It will be beneficial for attendees to have basic knowledge of bridges and culverts or to have attended an ARRB Level 1 Bridge Inspection course.
Accreditation:
Please note that the ARRB Level 2 Bridge Inspection workshops are now accredited. For further information about the accreditation, please download the workshop accreditation summary document below.
