ARRB has
recently updated and expanded its popular Unsealed Roads Manual.
This
2009 edition adds to the previous knowledge base by including the latest
research and new developments worldwide to address issues identified by
practitioners. It also includes the New
Zealand Supplement to the 2000 edition of the Manual and the latest
requirements and practices relevant in New Zealand to make it an
Australasian Manual on unsealed roads.
This
revised edition of the Manual is recommended reading for practitioners in local
government, state road authorities and other agencies responsible for the care,
maintenance and management of unsealed roads.
The Manual has been structured to
cover in eleven chapters the main topics associated with unsealed roads be they
primary rural roads to logging routes and dirt tracks. The features of the
upgrade include:
- New Zealand procedures and
practices throughout the Manual
- equipment developments that
provide objective data on unsealed road performance
- a new chapter covering ways to
improve safety on unsealed roads
- greater emphasis on asset management requirements.
ARRB
plans to conduct regional workshops across Australia
and New Zealand
over the next twelve months to make practitioners better aware of the latest
practices relating to unsealed roads. The first series of workshops are planned
in May 2009 in Western Australia.
