First Conference

opening ceremonyThe First International Sprayed Sealing Conference was held in Adelaide, South Australia by ARRB Group Ltd.

The conference ran from 27 to 29 July 2008 and was attended by nearly 400 delegates from 13 countries.

One of the important issues identified in the conference workshop was the need for an exchange of knowledge and expertise between practitioners in different countries.

This site

The Sprayed Seal Information Centre was set up as a result of the Conference. Currently, it provides information on sprayed sealing practice in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.  These nations use sprayed seals to surface most of their national road network.

In each country there is much valuable expertise and knowledge on all aspects of sprayed sealing. Often key information is available on the Internet but is buried deep in an organisation's website and difficult to find.

This site gives practitioners access to such information by linking directly to key information held by ARRB, and on the web sites of a wide range of other organisations.

International aspects

Whille information on the site comes from the three main sealing countries, it should be of considerable value to practitioners in other countries. The documents available encompass more than half a century of development of sprayed sealing techniques.

As an example, the VicRoads Bituminous sprayed surfacing manual is a complete technical primer on all aspects of the constructions and maintenace of sprayed surfacings. Such a document could be an invaluable aid for countries wishing to commence sealing work, or for organisations wishing to upgrade practice.

How to use the site

The best place to start is by clicking on Australia, South Africa or New Zealand in the menus above or on the left.

The country page will show how information is organised and give access to other menus.

Site development

The site has only recently been developed. Information on any errors or omissions will be gratefully received, as will suggestions for improvement.

It is expected that the site will be developed further, based on feedback from users. Information from sealing countries, additional to those currently represented, will be gratefully received.
