Australian National Risk Assessment Model (ANRAM)

Safety First

The Australian National Risk Assessment Model (ANRAM) provides a system to implement a nationally-consistent risk-based road assessment program, to identify road sections with the highest risk of severe crashes.

ANRAM is a nationally agreed approach that has built on existing Australian and international risk-based road safety programs such as AusRAP, NetRisk, iRAP and KiwiRAP, to create a system directly relevant and applicable for Australian state and local road agencies. ANRAM v1 was developed by ARRB, funded by Austroads and guided by Australian road agencies.

ANRAM supports a Safe System approach by focussing on the risk of fatal and severe injury (FSI) crashes. It uses a systematic and consistent methodology based on local and international research to identify, compare and prioritise severe crash risk.

ANRAM Toolkit

The ANRAM Toolkit enables scoping and comparison of proactive road safety mass-treatment programs. Such programs may range between high-cost Safe System transformation works to low-cost systemic improvements across the road network. ANRAM enables estimation of economic benefits of proposed mass-treatment programs and BCRs. These can be compared across jurisdictions. This ensures that future risk-based road safety programs can be implemented as effectively as the current crash-based programs.
