ARRB Research Report (ARR 377) - Industry Round Table on Heavy Vehicle Road Freight Transport Outlook

In keeping with our strategic aim of causing the exchange of information in the transport industry, ARRB convened an Industry Round Table in Melbourne on 11 December 2009 on the theme of 'The Heavy Vehicle Road Freight Transport Outlook: Innovation, Access & Partnership'. The event attracted 27 government and industry participants from diverse backgrounds, and given its success, it may be a model for similar ARRB ‘information exchange’ and ‘industry outreach’ activities in future.

The proceedings at the Round Table covered a wide spectrum of current issues affecting the uptake and impact of innovative, more productive heavy road freight transport vehicles in the Australian transport environment.

Valuable insights were explored amongst participants, surrounding key issues including;

• ongoing challenges in HV road freight ‘access’
• heavy vehicle regulatory framework and the PBS régime
• developments in heavy vehicle technology
• emerging investment risk and productivity matters that will be facing Australia’s governments and the transport industry in the near future.

ARRB is continuing to assist the transport industry on these matters by facilitating opportunities for more effective dialogue, such as this round table, and through the development of innovative resources such as the proposed PBS-related Route Assessment Tool software, intended for use by local government decision-makers when assessing HV access.

The highlights and results of the Round Table have now been published as an ARRB Research Report - ARR 37 - with the assistance of Ken Ogden, who was the main Facilitator / Moderator at the event. The ARR can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
