Here are four things we’ve learned from our work which may help your organisation as you attempt to best handle transport data and road condition data.

Find and use the Single Source of Truth – use ARRB as the single source of truth for your road condition data. There are many sources of data but only one recognised expert. Find the single source of truth for that topic and you don’t need to look elsewhere.

Don’t throw away knowledge for data – you can have all the data, a team of data scientists and all the computational power you need, but if you don’t know what problem you’re trying to solve and what questions to ask you are lost.

Data collection starts now – you don’t need to wait to build a data management system. The data ARRB has been collecting for 20 years is just as valuable as the data it collects tomorrow. Start now and don’t stop collecting data.

Know when and where to apply AI - AI is a game changer for some applications but not others. You should recognise this and continue with proven methods or run AI in parallel.
