iLINE measures line markings to make our roads safer

Line markings are an essential part of road safety and need to be visible at all hours of the day to improve the safety of all road users.

ARRB’s iLINE is a state-of-the-art retro-reflectivity vehicle that allows for the quick and inexpensive collection of high volumes of line marking conditions on your road network – at normal road speed, with no road closures.

Operated by ARRB experts, the iLINE allows road managers to collect line marking condition data across their network, quickly identifying roads or sections of roads that are below standard and need to be re-marked.

Taking 1,000 readings per second, the iLINE collects millions of data points in one pass at normal traffic speed. National Portfolio Leader, Safer Asset Performance, David Milling, says it is one-of-a-kind technology.

“For road managers, this information is critical as it provides them with the data, they need to create an evidence-based approach to re-marking their roads and reduce the risk of run-off-road crashes at night,” said Mr Milling.

Webinar: What is the iLINE?

ARRB recently held an online webinar where our experts explained the role of line markings and presented our state-of-the-art retro-reflectivity vehicle, the iLINE. An overview was given of how the iLINE can be used to develop a targeted network re-marking program that will allow for re-marking cost savings while also reducing network crash risk.
