Pavement on agenda for Bangladesh team

Written by Australian Road Research Board | June 6, 2019

ARRB's Sydney office has hosted a delegation of local roads engineers from the Local Government Engineering Division of Bangladesh.

In an interactive session with ARRB’s State Technical Leader NSW, Dr Michael Moffatt, the delegation examined typical Australian road pavement types and materials and recent developments in asset management techniques for local roads.

ARRB work has quantified the benefits of regular pavement and drainage maintenance in both maintaining acceptable levels of service and in providing a higher network resilience to flooding.

Road safety and the safe system concept were also discussed at length.

Low cost safety treatments were explored, and the reality that providing safer infrastructure need not always mean high expenditure was highlighted.

The delegation was also interested in how the operation of the whole Australian road network is influenced by the three tiers of government and multiple funding sources.
