Overview of training 
The Australian Road Research Board (ARRB), Trafficworks and Road Solutions have been engaged by The Department of Transport – Victoria (DoT) to be licenced training providers delivering VicRoads and DoT accredited technical training.

Road Safety Engineering & Road Safety Audit

The aim of this course is to understand road safety engineering best practice, learn how to analyse crash data and undertake crash investigations, develop solutions for high risk locations, and how to manage roadside hazards (days 1 – 3).

The course will cover:

  • Safe system approach to road safety
  • Crash reporting
  • Assessment of road safety projects
  • Treatment of high-risk locations
  • Crash site investigations
  • Roadside hazard management
  • Intelligent transport systems (ITS)

The aim of the road safety audit course (days 4 - 5) is to introduce and explain the road safety audit process.  The course includes the updated Austroads Guide to Road Safety Part 6 & 6A.

The course will cover:

  • What are road safety audits and how do they differ from safe system assessments?
  • Stages of road safety audits
  • Design stage road safety audits
  • Legal issues with road safety audits
  • Consideration of vulnerable road users - pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
  • Traffic management road safety audits
  • Preparation and presentation of a road safety audit report
  • Road safety auditor accreditation and registration
