Joe Grobler is a specialist pavement engineer and Principal Technology Leader at the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB). He has over 15 years’ experience in initial and detailed pavement assessments, material investigations, mechanistic modelling, detailed design, material specifications, and construction phase services. Since joining ARRB in 2016as the Pavements Team Leader in Brisbane, Joe has been involved with a number of strategically significant research projects focused on asphalt technology, crumb rubber modified binders and stabilised materials. As ARRB’s Agreement Manager for the National Asset Centre of Excellence in Queensland, he is also responsible for the delivery of a significant research program in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Transport in Main Roads. Prior to joining ARRB, Joe worked for GHD Pty Ltd as a Principal Pavement Engineer in the Transport division. During this time, he was involved with a number of infrastructure projects that varied in scope between low volume rural roads to heavy duty motorway pavements. He is also the current secretary for the Austroads Asphalt Research Working Group.
