Robert Urquhart

 

Robert has 25 years’ experience working with and developing bituminous products for use in road applications. He spent 13 years at BP Bitumen Australia in Bituminous Products Technologist and Bitumen Technical Manager roles. The main aim of these roles was to develop and improve BP Bitumen’s range of unmodified bitumen, multigrade bitumen, polymer modified binders and bituminous emulsion products. As Technical Manager, he was responsible for the development and maintenance of bituminous product formulations and QC testing services associated with BP Bitumen’s five production plants. Since 2010, Robert has been conducting research and contract work at ARRB into the properties of bituminous binders and their performance in sprayed seals and asphalt. Projects have included studies of how PMB test properties can be used to predict road performance, revision of Austroads PMB test methods and specifications, and revisions to Australian Standards associated with unmodified bitumen, bituminous emulsions and cutback bitumen. He recently conducted a project that developed a national Austroads specification for crumb rubber binders used in asphalt and sprayed seals.
