Steve Patrick joined the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) in 2004 after graduating from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of (Mechanical) Engineering. He also holds a Master of Technology (Pavements) degree. After working in ARRBs Data Collection and Heavy Vehicles teams, he joined the Bituminous Surfacings team in August 2009, where he has participated in the group’s research and consulting activities in sprayed sealing practices, bitumen sprayer calibration, related field testing, and the preparation of guidelines and standards. Steve is presently a Senior Technology Leader in the Safer Smarter Infrastructure team.
 
In these roles, he authored the 2018 edition of the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology Part 4K: Sprayed Seals, which is used as the fundamental sprayed seal information, design and selection guide across Australia. Leading into that work, he authored updates to the Austroads sprayed seal design method for both initial treatments and double/double sprayed seals. Steve took part in establishing the Austroads PMB Sprayed Seal trials at Cooma and Coober Pedy in 2011, and has managed the ongoing monitoring and reporting of those trials since. He has developed and authored updates to the Austroads Bitumen Sprayer Calibration methods, and has been the secretary of the Austroads Bituminous Surfacings Technical Group for the past decade.
